Promoting English Proficiency through Digital Literacy

Sabado, Oktubre 22, 2011

English is the linguistic engine that drives the global economy. If you look at the most important communications and transportation innovations in the last 150 years, nearly all of them were invented by English speakers, so their documentation was in English. The others were either invented by people working in English-speaking countries or were later widely disseminated by English-speaking innovators. English has been the sole linguistic engine driving this process. Therefore, in order to truly participate in globalization and the global economy, English is absolutely critical.
Digital literacy encompasses computer hardware, software, cell phones and other digital devices.  Schools are continually updating their curriculum for digital literacy to keep up with accelerating technological developments. This often includes computers in the classroom, the use of educational software to teach curriculum, and course materials being available to students, online. And when we talk about English and its proficiency, this is an important tool to improve. Because, when we talk about digital literacy, we are not just talking about computers, modernization and innovation, we are also talking about its effect on us, on our education and most of all, on our proficiency in English.
